Workplace Civility:  Why It Matters and How to Cultivate It workshop

Today's complex business environment presents challenges to maintaining civility in the workplace. As a result, we see an increase in employee sexual harassment and discrimination complaints. A single, small incident can now snow-ball into a law suit. This 90 minute discussion will make the business case for creating civility in the workplace. Incivility reflects badly on any company. If it's apparent to your clients, it's bad for your brand. When it's present, it negatively affects employee loyalty and morale. It increases stress and reduces employee productivity.

Participants Will Discuss:

What does a culture of civility look like?

What are examples of incivility, such as being chronically late for meetings with no apology or interrupting and talking over meeting leader and co-workers.

What happens when there's excessive cynicism and negativity in the workplace.

How to eliminate entitlement behavior: "my project is very important! I need you to stop what you are doing and help me now."

How to create a culture of optimism which incorporates empathy.

How to practice acts of random kindness, like staying late to help a colleague on a deadline or offering to train a new team member.

How to develop guidelines for demonstrating mutual respect, every day.

The discussion will end with specific suggestions to foster and improve communication. Participants will better understand how to create an open-minded work environment that results in increased civility.
